Today is the third anniversary of CoverSpy. For three years we’ve been spying on New York’s public readers. We’ve seen bestsellers, we’ve seen classics, we’ve seen books we’d never heard of but now know exist. We’ve seen such beautiful cover designs. We’ve seen books not yet published: one an author reading, one an author writing. We’ve seen reasons to go buy the book ourselves. We’ve watched commenters discover books. We’ve watched commenters fall in love with readers. We created “I Like Your Glasses” mingles specifically for them. Some thought CoverSpy was creepy, but others really liked it. CoverSpy expanded to DC, London, and Buenos Aires for some time, and similar sites sprouted up in other cities around the world. We felt more connected to books and to New York now that we were paying attention. So thank you, artists, designers, and publishers behind those covers. Thank you, authors and editors behind those books. Thank you, New Yorkers, for not always choosing an e-reader. It was nice knowing what book you were laughing at. And thanks, you guys, for checking in.
We’re thinking of all those affected by the storm today and hoping for a speedy recovery.
Until then…
